The habitual nature of food purchases at the supermarket: Implications for policy making

Abstract Supermarkets have become the most important provider of food products worldwide. However, empirical evidence about how consumers make their food purchase decisions in this environment is still scarce. The present field study aimed to: i) explore how people make their in-store food purchases, and ii) identify the information they search for when making those purchases. Consumers (n = 144) were intercepted when entering the facilities of three supermarkets in two Uruguayan cities. This study analyses residents’ perceptions and attitudes towards tourism and community engagement with tourism planning. Overall, residents think that the positive effects of tourism development outweigh the negative impacts. Despite this, they express concerns regarding the economic future of their area and that the tourism development in their area is mostly exogenously driven. There are various ways to construct good processes for soliciting and understanding science. Our critique of advisory models finds that a well-supported chief science advisor (CSA) best ensures the provision of deliberative, informal, and emergency advice to government. Alternatively, bias, increasingly manifest as science-based advocacy, can hinder communication, diminish credibility, and distort scientific evidence.

The principal reference points for the foreign policy of the Second Republic were the League of Nations and the Anglo‐French axis. In both areas of policy making, the conditioning factor was Spain's position geographically and strategically and its interest in the security of the western Mediterranean. Its participation in the successive plans to draw up a Mediterranean pact and in the Mediterranean conflicts of the period was characterized by its role as a secondary figure within that axis and by its policy of adaptation as a neutral country to the crisis of the system of collective security.
